Child Benefit Update April 2020
The Government published up to date information on Child benefit including who is entitled to receive it at www.gov.uk/child-benefit
The Child Benefit rates have increased to:
· £21.05 per week for the eldest child (or only child)
· £13.95 per week, per any additional child
Payments will be made to those who are entitled to receive and claim child benefit on a four weekly basis on either a Monday or a Tuesday, into one nominated bank account.
We are aware the payment of Child Benefit, often causes tension, when families have separated and haven’t been able to establish clear and transparent arrangements for the care of their children.
The government guidance is clear for separated families:
If a family splits up, you get £21.05 a week for the eldest child.
If you have 2 children and one stays with you and the other stays with your ex-partner, you’ll both get £21.05 a week for each child.
If you both claim for the same child, only one of you will get Child Benefit for them.
If you have other children who are entitled to Child Benefit, you’ll get £13.95 for each child.
